History of Frog Island Brewing Company
How it all began 
In 1995, David French of Ypsilanti's Historic Depot Town, took the recipe for his now-famous Frog Island Beer to the Frankenmuth Brewery where he wanted to get enough brewed to introduce to the public at that year's upcoming Jazz & Blues Festival. It was an instant hit, which came as no surprise to anyone who had already tasted his great beer. As a result, Frankenmuth Brewery continued producing Frog Island beer and distribution began to spread throughout eastern Michigan.
With its roots firmly planted in Depot Town, Frog Island Beer sales branched out into even more Michigan cities and has now become a favorite drink at the many bars and restaurants where it is served. Today, Frog Island beer is also available at many fine retail stores.
Unfortunately, as with many great beginnings, ours was no hop, skip and a jump to success. Just as we were really rolling out the barrel....
Tragedy Strikes!
It was the summer of Frog Island Beer's one-year anniversary. Dave and the general manager of Frankenmuth were at the 1996 Frog Island Jazz & Blues Festival, celebrating where and how it all began when the bad news arrived; a tornado had just destroyed the Frankenmuth Brewery.
Needless to say, everyone was devastated by the terrible turn of events. At this point, Dave and his associates were forced to scramble to find another brewery to produce their increasingly popular brew. 
As it turned out, the task wasn't as difficult as they feared. Several breweries around Michigan were happy to take on the job, and furthermore, to continue brewing it exactly according to the original recipe.
It all began in Depot Town, and although today, Frog Island beer is available in many Michigan cities, we will always call Depot Town our home. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank the many beer lovers and distributors who have made Frog Island beer a success.
